I have been a graphic designer since I first wandered into Adrean Printing in New Rochelle, NY in the early 70s and was hired by Vernon Adrean, because he thought that women could do anything they put their minds to. It wasn’t long before I went from counter girl to senior printer while taking courses in graphic design at night school. I loved running the AB Dick offset printer… the smell of the ink, and the process of working with a client from conception to delivery. I soon started Lawton Press, and being part of the growing community of poets in the New York area, began printing and publishing “chapbooks” for individual poets and poetry groups.
For a time, I was the only woman running a printing press in Westchester County, New York. Before leaving the East Coast, I spent two years as the art director of Cherry Lane Music, publishers of the music of John Denver, Emmylou Harris, Kenny Rogers, The Blues Brothers, Donna Summer, KISS, and so many more. That was my last “real” job.

In 1982, I moved to Maui, Hawaii and began my studies of Hawaiian Huna and Native American spirituality, a passionate interest which has been both my hearthstone and my driving force since I first sat in community for a Medicine Wheel ceremony. Through this work, I was surrounded by others drawn to the study of alternative healing methods. They all needed business cards, and I began creating their promotional materials and, of course, sampling many of the healing, dynamic, inventive, intuitive, powerful, and playful things people can do to assist each other in healing and balancing their lives.
I became the art director of Maui Art & Creative People for the premier edition in 1983 and continued the concept of a directory of artistic people when I started Healing Artists of the Sacramento Region in 2001, a project that would become an important community resource for a decade.
When I moved to California in 1986, I began leading regular full moon Medicine Wheel circles as well as working with individuals through Circlekeepers, A Lunar Cycle Journey with the Medicine Wheel. I became a massage therapist in 1986, receiving my certification from Phillips School of Massage in Nevada City. Having a foot in both these worlds assists me in portraying my clients with materials that they are proud to present and that represent their unique qualities.
During this time, I also had the privilege of working with Jacqui Stratton, MFCC from Livermore, CA to create a relationship series called Choosing to Live as Lovers. You can find our beautiful work by clicking here. Hope Harris and I did a card series, featuring her photography and my poetry. We’ve still got some HopeCards and Posters available, as well as my books of poetry from 1991 and 1982.
